Born in Aylesbury, Bucks, 1974, Joel then grew up close to Silverstone circuit, where his first job involved hand-cutting vinyl stickers for racing car liveries. After a 25 year gap working in advertising, he has resurrected those skills learnt with a scalpel and taken them full-circle by going back to sticking vinyl on car parts, along with almost anything he can apply vinyl too. This technique and medium enables him to turn real objects in to minimalist, surreal Pop Art sculptures by totally transforming their original look and feel. The concept also allows him to create work that is ultimately just a reflection of the world around us, only in a unique, fresh and original approach. Joel is still within the first few years of starting this direction and thus far he is enjoying discovering new subjects (and objects) on which to base his collections on, with influences that range from Hockney to Koons.
