Thame Art Crawl welcomes Barbara Shaw, who creates art in textiles by ‘painting’ with fabric. Being self-taught, her work has developed a unique, distinctive, Impressionist style. The pictures are built up with many layers of carefully selected scraps of material, which are hand-stitched together. From a distance the artwork looks painterly but close up all the texture of the threads can be seen.
As well as featuring in Oxfordshire Art Weeks, her art is regularly exhibited in galleries and museums and she has been Artist-in-Residence at National Trust properties Chastleton House (Oxfordshire) and Claydon House (Buckinghamshire). A piece of her work was bought by Oxfordshire County Museum for its collections and another picture was selected for display in an exhibition in Parliament. Her art has appeared in both local and national publications as well as featured in magazines in Australia, America and Germany. Last year she was selected to be filmed for a TV programme and the episode will be shown in 2019.
She is a Licentiate Member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and a Member of Oxfordshire Craft Guild.
